Amethyst is quartz touched with violet, from the palest lilac to deep episcopal purple. The Greeks named it amethystos — she who is not intoxicated — and carved it into cups to keep a clear head at the feast.
 
Emotional and spiritual virtues — It is regarded as a stone of serenity and spiritual clarity, said to calm an agitated mind, soothe restless nights and open a quiet inner listening.
