Peristerite is a feldspar made of two intergrown minerals which separated during the slow cooling of the rock, forming microscopic lamellae that create optical interference. It is this microstructure, invisible to the naked eye, that produces the ghostly blue, this inner light that seems to come from nowhere. Its name comes from the Greek peristera, meaning dove — a reference to the iridescent blue-grey reflections of the bird's feathers.
