Legend — Peristerite takes its name from the Greek peristera, meaning "dove", a reference to the iridescent reflections that evoke the feathers of this messenger bird. Long confused with moonstone, it was only identified as a distinct mineral species in the 19th century. In Celtic traditions, stones with pearlescent reflections were considered tears of the moon fallen to earth during the great tides, and were worn by priestesses to commune with invisible forces.
